Product
When your logo is on a product, safety is not a feature. It is brand protection.
I.D. Me Promotions serves clients whose brands carry real trust, including colleges and universities, large organizations, and institutions with communities to protect. The products we deliver may be handed to students, parents, alumni, employees, guests, and families. They need to be safe, compliant, well made, and appropriate for real-world use because they represent the client's brand in the physical world.
Product safety has also become more complex. Promotional products now cross many risk categories: children’s items, drinkware and food-contact items, apparel and textiles, electronics, products with small batteries, packaging, chemical restrictions, labeling, documentation, and recalls. Not every product is governed by the same rule, and not every risk is obvious from a catalog photo. That is why we treat product responsibility as a process, not a checkbox.
Preferred Suppliers
Product responsibility begins with brand protection, and brand protection begins with supplier selection. The promotional-products industry includes more than 3,000 suppliers and millions of available products. I.D. Me does not try to use the whole marketplace. It works from the top of the top: suppliers that can demonstrate mature people, systems, and controls.
Our goal is for 80% or more of annual spend to go through this preferred supplier group.
Preferred suppliers must demonstrate strong compliance programs, including product testing, supply-chain oversight, documentation controls, corrective-action systems, factory quality oversight, environmental stewardship, and supply-chain security. Their factories are expected to operate under responsible processes that address product safety, social compliance, quality management, and environmental awareness throughout the supply chain.
How We Protect The Brand
Clients trust I.D. Me to make choices they usually cannot make for themselves. They are not selecting the factory, reviewing the supplier's compliance systems, validating test documentation, or monitoring corrective action. Their brand is on the product, but I.D. Me is responsible for making sure the product does not put that brand in harm's way.
How We Qualify Products
Before a product is recommended or added to a program, I.D. Me and Product Safety Advisors look at the product itself, how it will be used, who may use it, where it will be distributed, and what documentation is needed to support compliance.
That review may include:
- Applicable federal, state, and local product-safety requirements
- Testing by accredited independent laboratories
- General Conformity Certificates or Children's Product Certificates, where required
- Chemical and material restrictions, including California Proposition 65 considerations, and restricted substances of growing concern such as intentionally added PFAS
- Food-contact requirements for drinkware, lunch containers, kitchen items, and related products
- Battery safety, including button-cell or coin-cell battery requirements where applicable
- Packaging, labeling, tracking, and warning requirements
- Recall readiness and corrective-action procedures
- Material and environmental claims — recycled content, organic, or certified materials — supported by the supplier's documentation, consistent with our Planet commitments
Regulatory Awareness
This compliance work is built to keep pace with changing rules and expectations. Depending on the product, relevant requirements may include the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, CPSC children's product rules, California Proposition 65, food-contact requirements, battery-safety requirements, packaging laws, the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, FDA requirements, and other state or federal standards.
For imported regulated consumer products, certification data and import documentation are also becoming more important. I.D. Me Promotions works with preferred suppliers that understand the need for complete, accurate, and accessible compliance records.
Documentation And Recall Readiness
Product-safety documentation must be more than a file saved after the fact. Where applicable, we expect current certificates, test reports, product specifications, labeling information, and supporting records to be available when clients or regulators need them.
Recall readiness is also reviewed with preferred suppliers, including documented recall-response plans, updates to those plans, insurance coverage where applicable, and mock recalls that test response capability.
Oversight
I.D. Me Promotions sets the standard for responsible sourcing and contracts with Product Safety Advisors, a leading product safety, compliance, and quality-management consultancy, to help vet and monitor suppliers against that standard. Product Safety Advisors supports supplier qualification, ongoing monitoring, compliance review, and corrective-action follow-up when needed.
Product responsibility is connected to everything else in the 3P platform and to the larger duty of brand protection. A product should be safe for the person who receives it, responsibly made by the people who produce it, and sourced with care for the planet that bears its footprint.
This is also part of I.D. Me's history. Neil Levitt has contributed to the promotional-products industry's responsible-sourcing conversation through his volunteer work with PPAI's Product Responsibility Action Group, helping promote product safety and compliance values beyond I.D. Me's own customer base.
